Spirit Levels and Angle Finders are also another set of tools available at Bright Ideas, ranging from spirit levels to tilers squares for accurate measurements whatever the application at hand.
- A steel bodied plumb bob with facility for attaching to line. Is used for
indicated a true verticle line when tiling and building walls.
How to Use:
i) Select a plumb bob relevant to the job at hand. Use string or cotton, preferrably one that doesn't stretch, to the desired length required.
ii) To align a wall vertically, measure and cut a length of string that equals the distance from the floor to the ceiling. Fasten one end of the string to the head of the plumb bob. There should be a loop or hole provided.
iii) Nail the opposite end to the ceiling, ensuring it is an inch or two away from the outside corner of your wall frame. Due to the plumb bomb's heaviness, it should form a perfectly vertical line from the ceiling down to the floor. Use this verticle line as a reference to adjust your wall frame.
iv) Transfer the points from ceiling and exact them to the floor by nailing the string end to the top point and waiting until the plumb bob quits moving. The bottom point will be hanging directly over the aligned spot so mark it out with a Bright Ideas Carpenters Pencil for future reference.
v) To straighten a doorway nail the plumb bob in the wall, positioning it just above the center of the frame, allowing it to hang down in a central position. Use a Bright Ideas Measuring Tape to determine the distance from the string to the sides of the frame for both the top and the bottom. Adjust the frame until both measurements appear equal.
vi) When using a plumb bob outside, it is recommended a heavier plumb bob to be used to prevent any obstruction such as the blowing of wind from interfering with measurments.
