When to Use:

- A chalk line is useful when tiling or laying other floor coverings

How to Use:

1) Decide on the color of chalk that will be used:
>
Blue is for general purpose use.
> Red is for more permanent jobs that need to be durable so that it lasts out in the weather.
> White is a good choice for interior walls since it can easily be removed.
> Black is ideal for marking out on lighter coloured floors and walls

2) Fill the chalk reel with chalk. Open the side door of the chalk line and pull out about 12 inches of line and insert the tip of the chalk bottle into the side door. Fill it up to about halfway and close the side door.

3) Pull out a large portion of string and then proceed to wind it back 6 to 8 times. Doing this helps coat the string before first using it.

4) Place the hook at the end of your first mark, using either a nail or by hooking it to the end of a board. It is recommended if another person can hold the end on the mark for you.

5) Place the reel end on the string on the other mark.

6) Ensure the string is tight and hold it up to about 12 inches before letting go. The string should snap back to the surface, creating a chalk line between the two designated marks.
